Backyard with artificial turf, patio and deck on a sunny day

Artificial Turf Installation

Artificial turf looks real when the base is flat, the seams are invisible and the edges are clean. Ours sits on a compacted, draining base with a paver or bender board border.

Artificial Turf

Built right, start to finish

Turf saves water, stays green through dry summers and holds up to kids and dogs. It also fits well with hardscape: we often install turf alongside a new patio, between stepping stone pads, or as strips between driveway pavers.

The difference between turf that looks great and turf that ripples and smells is the base. We remove the old lawn and roots, compact a crushed rock base, and lay the turf with seams glued and edges secured.

What's underneath

What's under your turf

This is the build-up we use for artificial turf. Depths change with soil, slope and use.

You'll never see these layers once the job is done. They're the reason the surface stays flat, drains properly and doesn't need to be redone in five years.

Typical build-up. Depths are adjusted to your soil and use.

Our process

How we build it

  1. Remove the lawn

Sod, roots and 3 to 4 inches of soil are removed and hauled away.

  2. Weed control

Weed barrier fabric is laid where needed.

  3. Base

Crushed rock base is spread, graded for drainage and compacted.

  4. Lay & seam

Turf is rolled out with the grain aligned, seams glued and edges nailed.

  5. Infill & brush

Infill is spread and the fibers brushed upright.

FAQ

Artificial Turf questions

How long does artificial turf last?

Quality turf typically lasts 10 to 15 years or more, depending on sun exposure and use.

Is artificial turf good for dogs?

Yes, with a draining base and pet infill. Rinsing pet areas occasionally keeps them fresh.

Does turf get hot?

Turf in full sun can get warm in summer. Lighter infills and a quick rinse help, and shade from trees or a pergola makes a big difference.
